Not By Bread Alone - Steffansson

Not By Bread Alone

By: Vilhjalmur Steffansson

The lion diet is trending as of late. All meat. A bit of salt. Plain water.

And nothing else.

There's also the carnivore diet, meaning, only animal products (think dairy, meat, eggs, fish).

Before that there was the Atkins diet (high protein, mostly animal based).

These all seem cute and trendy. Short term. Weight-loss oriented. Fads.

But there are people of this very world that you and I share who eat like this, have eaten like this, whose family, generations back and back and back, have eaten like this, since....the beginning of time?

Who knows.

But a man named Vihjalmur Stefansson, an Arctic explorer and anthropologist, spent years living amongst some of those generationally carnivorous, indigenous, people, tribes known as Inuits and the Eskimos, and soon discovered that they basically never, ever, got sick. Scurvy, heart disease, diabetes..and even the 'common cold', simply weren't part of their world.

And they had the best looking teeth he'd ever seen.

This book chronicles a scientific experiment in 1928 by Stefansson and his colleague, Dr. Karsten Andersen, conducted at the Russell Sage Institute of Pathology at Bellevue Hospital in New York.

They happened upon some pretty, pretty interesting findings.

Want to know what happens?

Read the book.

Happy reading. :-)
